Volunteer with NRWH

The Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital is built on community spirit; we know we can’t do it alone.

Volunteers will play a huge role in helping us care for native wildlife and the hospital grounds, and we’re excited to offer opportunities for passionate people to get involved when the hospital opens.

While our volunteer program is still taking shape, we’d love to hear from anyone interested in making a difference. Whether you have experience with animals, are a keen fundraiser, have a green thumb for gardening, or just a big heart and a desire to help, there will be ways for you to contribute. Fill in the form further down the page to register your interest.

Steps to become a volunteer

Sign up for our newsletter, Wildlife Watch. You’ll receive hospital updates, community news and notifications about available volunteer positions.

Complete the application form and tell us about your relevant experience and availability. Successful applicants will receive an initial phone screening.

We’re excited to welcome new volunteers! The onboarding process begins with an initial phone screening, after which we’ll provide a detailed role description and outline our expectations. Volunteers will then be invited to an Orientation session with the Team Leader. Specific role training will occur over three trial sessions, allowing you to gain hands-on experience and determine if the role is the right fit.

Upon confirming your role and agreeing on shift hours and completing all necessary paperwork you may order a Volunteer T-shirt for $45.

Beyond this initial training, we offer ongoing learning opportunities to help you deepen your skills in wildlife care and conservation. While additional roles may not be immediately available, we support your growth by providing resources for continuous learning and skill development as you progress in your volunteer journey with us.

Once your role is confirmed, you’ll have the option to purchase an NRWH T-shirt for $45, which is required for shifts. If you’re facing financial hardship, please reach out to discuss possible exceptions.
