Peter brings a wealth of experience and deep passion for wildlife care to his role as Lead Wildlife Vet at NRWH. His career began at Healesville Sanctuary in 1994, where he spent 15 years saving lives and breeding endangered species. He later broadened his horizons at Werribee Open Range Zoo, working with African wildlife before returning to university to complete a PhD on diseases of the endangered southern bent-wing bat, and then a return to clinical practice at Healesville in 2019.
Peter was drawn to NRWH by the opportunity to help establish a new, purpose-built wildlife hospital — and the chance to work with a diverse range of species in one of Australia’s most beautiful regions.
Peter is passionate about species conservation, clinical care, and tackling complex wildlife health challenges. He’s also an avid field worker, having joined IFAW and Friends of the Koala on one of his first days on the job with NRWH – he was delighted to spot over 20 healthy koalas in one day (and noting how much fluffier their ears are compared to their Victorian cousins!).
