Swamp Rat’s Rescue and Recovery

NRWH Patient Story - Native swamp receives treatment

One of our recent success stories involves a swamp rat rescued by a local volunteer wildlife carer after being cornered by a cat. That is when our volunteer team members stepped in to help.

To minimise his stress, they anaesthetised him and discovered the tip of his tail had been degloved. After giving him pain relief, antibiotics, and treating him for shock, they carefully cleaned and bandaged his tail (cutest little bandage ever!). Dr. Megan performed surgery on his injured tail the following day, from which he recovered beautifully. With some ongoing TLC from a dedicated carer, Dr. Megan reports he’s now doing great and should be set to return to the wild any day now.

Your donation will bring us closer to opening our doors and providing lifesaving care to wildlife in need. Every contribution helps us give animals – great and small – a second chance!
