Training for the Worst to Deliver the Best

Recently, our Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital (NRWH) / Vitality Vetcare veterinary team stepped into the thick of a simulated bushfire zone as part of a regional wildlife emergency response training exercise. The event, hosted by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), brought together members of the Northern Rivers Wildlife Emergency Response Team (NR-WERT) and the Northern Rivers Wildlife Network (NRWN) to rehearse a coordinated response to a large-scale wildlife disaster.

We’re thrilled to share a milestone moment for wildlife in our region — the Northern Rivers Wildlife Hospital is officially open and treating its first patients! After years of planning, fundraising, and incredible community determination, we’re proud to finally open our doors (Wednesday, April 9th 2025) and begin delivering urgent, specialist care to our region’s most vulnerable animals.

Wildlife Network Bands Together

The Northern Rivers is home to a passionate network of wildlife carers, and collaboration is key when animals need urgent care. Recently, with some local services temporarily unavailable, the NRWH volunteer team rallied to fill the gap, ensuring injured and displaced wildlife continued to receive the help they needed.
